Meet Kelly Martin
Community Engagement
For over 20 years, I've dedicated myself to coaching, giving back to my community and shaping young athletes on and off the field. My journey began with coaching my two daughters' basketball teams for a decade, culminating in building a team that achieved four consecutive years of State playoff appearances. Three years ago, I transitioned to middle school football at Bunger, and last year, I proudly returned to my alma mater, Waterloo East High, to join the girls' basketball coaching staff. I am also a current member of the Midwest Iowa 7v7 Football Board of Directors.
Educator
Three years ago, I took a leap of faith, leaving the business world to pursue a career in education. My journey with the Waterloo Community School District began as the Strategic Partnership Coordinator, where I worked to build strong community ties. I now serve as the Work-Based Learning Coordinator, a role that gives me immense joy and purpose. Nothing is more rewarding than guiding students as they explore their career interests and seeing their future plans take shape. Being able to connect these bright young minds with local businesses and watch both sides thrive is truly an honor.
Husband and Father
Being a husband and father is a profound responsibility and privilege. It's about being the emotional and physical rock for my family, consistently making them a top priority in both big and small moments. Putting my family first means being fully present—turning off distractions to actively listen to my children and wife.
As a husband, prioritizing my wife means nurturing our partnership through mutual respect and support, which sets a strong example for our children. As a father, it means providing for my children's emotional and physical needs, acting as their biggest cheerleader and guide. The time I have invested in has built a lifelong bond of trust.
Ultimately, putting my family first is a testament to the love and dedication I have for them, ensuring they always feel safe, supported, and cherished.
